Does anyone regularly use DSM V2?
If so, what do you use it for mainly?
To quote the developer himself,Mr. Paul Frindle :
"These are some of the things people are doing with it off the top of my head. There are of course many more:
Mastering: Dynamic control, continuity between tracks, dynamic control of freq content, modifying stereo effect (multi-mono mode), dynamic presence and loudness enhancement, compression of orchestral and classical music content - more forgiving than any normal compressor, restoration of freq content on legacy masters.
Instrument tracks: Modifying timbre, frequency 'fitting' between tracks, compression of challenging percussive instruments, impressing sonic features of one instrument onto another, producing new and novel sounds from instruments.
Vocal tracks: General compression, frequency content modification with level, highly advanced and natural de-essing, continuity of sound between main and backing vocals, compensation for distance effects and other mic and performer issues, timbre improvement for vocal styles.
Percussion tracks and busses: Successful compression of complex stuff conventional compressors can't match, timbre changes with level, fattening up 'weak' percussion sounds, taming overheads, adding 'zing' to dull sounding metal percussion (cymbals and such like).
Post production and video/broadcast: Increasing intelligibility of dialogue (especially for ENG and remote content), diverse contribution matching, controlling the dynamics of sound effects, producing novel foley sounds."
In short: This plugin saved my a** so many times.
It's spectral matching, transparency even at higher values and the limiter make this a gem.
