Let's start a conversation on how you delineate when a project is 'not meant to be' vs the 'time has come'. Often a great opportunity comes from an iron not in the fire. I like the saying: luck comes to the one who is prepared for it. Almost all of my projects that had great success and rewards seemed to come about in very strange ways and circumstances... can you share a great disappointment or great manifestation?

I've had bad luck in the past being very over ambitious when I was younger and naive just presuming everyone else was the same, in bands this is a big big problem, I'm thinking internationally, they're thinking small tiny local venues, then they wonder why they never get anywhere so I just quit and decided I'm far better off on my own, there's also the issues of money and wanting to make money when for most people it's just a stupid hobby and most musicians hate money with a passion, so in a group situation with the wrong people it can be very counterproductive.

My entire exciting and varied career consisted of no planning whatsoever and lots of being "off on a whim" when I was younger.

If I had my time again, probably would not have spent several houses worth of money on audio toys. But then I might have not been able to do any work.

generally i have had lots of luck following my gut. i am primarily a musician and work with other musicians and am not a technical engineer. what i have found is that everyone you meet is creative and has really cool interests and tastes in music -- but that means little. Its not true that creative people can just get together and make something creative. You kind of have to be on the same wavelength mentally and humanly. It helps if you vibe and gel together. but it's not required. Some people that don't get along as humans personality wise can make great music if they are on same wavelength. If I notice we aren't on same wavelengths i cut my losses early. I can tell with my guy this ain't going to go nowhere musically.


One band i was in, we all got along really well and it was warm and fuzzy.. but the music was meh to mediocre at best. another band was very toxic and lots of head butting but it was really great creative wise. lots of really great music came out of it. but it imploded because it was toxic and not meant to be. (it also didn't help that two members got into a relationship and the broke up and that caused a whole lot of other internal problems in the band).

Yea I think that is a pretty good nutshell. Thinking everyone is like us while still being naive etc. when starting out. Wisdom... is gold.

Whims often turn out (usually no expectations) and seeing with clarity etc. I'd be great to be brash yet wise! rlol thx.

One book I read said 'focus on; who is on the bus not where you are going'. Toxicity can ruin ones quality of life. Having a meeting of the minds with creativity is awesome... yet can be elusive.
