Re similarities to the C502V, I’d be surprised if the basic compression algorithms weren’t just copy/pasted straight into this. What this has that the C502V doesn’t is, an extensive side chain shaping section, gain reduction range control, peak or RMS detection, and feedback or feed forward for any of the three modes, all of which can change the sound quite a bit obviously. The BM mode also has a fully variable knee, which can really hide the compression nicely.

Also, the THD and drive are not the standard PA add-ons, all of the DSP is from Bettermaker. The THD gives a subtle push, the drive circuit is a zener diode emulation which can be subtle or not. The drive knob maxes out at aggressive soft clipping, but the makeup gain from the compressor also feeds the drive circuit, so you can go well beyond that. With the makeup gain cranked the zeners explode beautifully, and keep the low end in tact longer than they should.

Super flexible and sounds awesome, definite keeper for me.

Yes, freely re-sizable by dragging the bottom right corner, and it automatically recalls the last size when launching a new instance. The scope at the bottom also has three different height options, or you can hide it.

I like the interface and the usability here. Everything on one page.
Only missing is an input trim somewhere, as the DX compressor has a fixed threshold and it's sometimes just too much to get similar results as the other two algorithms when having high gain input. This would be best within the compressor, so I can quickly compare the algos by switching the A/B/C slots.

More or less gave up hoping DMG updates Compassion to current GUI standards, this will be a nice companion or even replacement for it.

What do all the different colors mean in scrolling wave form?

looks to me like:
Orange - Compressed signal
Cream - Uncompressed signal
Dark Purple - Added signal level either from added gain or drive

I really like this, especially the original BM section. It has the same compression characteristics and response behavior as the hardware version I had for a while. A little different, yes, but still familiar.

I was trying different compressors before my clipper, and this one made a lot of sense - perceived loudness is increased through the coloring section with a touch of upfront FF compression. It gives me a few dBs of more controlled headroom before a clipper and slightly enhanced tone. Unisum and Kotelnikov GE are more on the invisible side: this is a good crossover between tube saturation modeling and clean comps. Also the saturation sounds natural and the sidechain option is useful as well. Well done!

Yes, the BM compression sounds the best to me. This is an excellent clean compressor, but not too clean. Plus, the Zener drive adds a real nice distortion when needed.
Agree with all the above. The GUI is spot on, easy to use despite being very flexible. An input gain for the DX compressor is needed though.

I really like how this plugin sounds, but I'm a bit disappointed that there’s no way to turn off the -100dB noise floor.

Did an initial Demo of this new BM Comp.

Nice layout, features and all .... but early sense of it was a bit underwhelming compared to several of my goto
Mastering comps.

Not that it sounded bad ... but, so far, not better.

Still have some demo time, so will give it more audition time.

Can you still use those? I thought they cut that off mid-May, so I went on a shopping spree a couple of weeks ago to use them all up.

The Forever 29 vouchers expired, not the Mega plan vouchers.

Was using at 96k and sounded good but seems there is no oversampling in this one to cut down aliasing. PA should definitely add that since this is supposed to be a mastering compressor.

Unused Forever 29 vouchers will expire May 30. I just used my last two. Forever, indeed.

Demoed & bought it. I liked the SG (SSL) mode for mixes & the BM mode for masters. (Haven't tried the DX (dBX) mode). Plus the sidechannel, THD, width & drive controls were easy to use & great for additional tweaking of the sound.

Also liked that it wasn't the typical Brainworx plugin in which you can't see nor enter numerical settings for the dials & if you use a preset, it doesn't display which one when you load it.

I learned my lesson many years back with their previous loyalty system that also used the word forever in the terms. Some will no doubt recall.

I have had issues with levels/threshold settings when toggling between COMP MODE's. Toggling through all 3 MODE's and returning to the same MODE and the meters not reading the same. Also DX MODE slammed without any adjustment making for a fix. Sent ticket to support.
