When the OSD crashes (for me it's a crapshoot whether it works or not after waking my computer up from sleep), it doesn't always (ever?) remove itself from memory. I've had to use a process monitor program to go and try to kill it - even then it takes a few minutes to end itself. It is usually faster just to do a restart. Does it appear at all after a restart?

No it doesn't. I recently was able to get it to stop but I did so much, I'm not sure what worked. None of it makes any sense to me.

I've been having issues with mine lately as well. The only way I can use my C1 in a session is to turn on the OSD prior to booting up protools. Otherwise I get connection issues, I also needed to punt the softube installation manager and install everything manually. Pain in the can but at least things are loading up (although my fft still doesnt work and softube support are over a week without a response)

Thanks. Thinking about installing another drive and re installing everything to that drive. That's gonna be a real pain in the arse but I really dig console 1. I have all the consoles and although I was gonna ditch it, I realize it would be better to keep.
I'm pretty sure I tried to launch the osd 1st put i will try again today.

It will either be a long time or never. Apple have been releasing updates and improvements for control surfaces on every significant Logic update since Console 1 has been out, and did a ton on yesterday’s update that includes Eucon and MCU improvements, but nothing for Console 1!



I’ve given up hope

I get that same error message lately, however my OSD loads up as expected, it simply seems to load another one. But it's all weird, in Softube Central Console 1 still shows as uninstalled, although I installed it from there several times. Uninstalled and reinstalled it, still the same. No feedback from Support for quite some days now. So I can use Console 1 as expected, but it's really annoying.

Last night I uninstalled console 1 then re installed it. 1st thing I did after was launch the OSD. Then my daw, Cubase. Once I loaded the song I loaded a vst2 version of C1 and clicked on the “set name” on C1. The OSD popped up and from there, I could load VST3 versions and get rid of that 1 vst2 version. Someone mentioned this in this thread a few days ago. So far I’ve loaded 3 different songs and it’s worked every time. I’m ok with this if it continues. I’ve invested in all consoles and am really depending on C1 so I NEED this to continue to work.
Btw, the Weiss console is REALLY good. I’m pretty blown away from what Softube has created. I wish support was more helpful but I’m guessing there is only 1 individual holding it down. Pretty unfortunate.

Edit: Also, as mentioned above, I didn’t use Softube Central. I downloaded the software and loaded it manually.

I was so hoping Logic would pull through and allow full integration.

This is just wishful thinking on my part, I'm sure, but I noticed that after the 10.5 update to Logic, Console 1 now has a weird number after the track name in the OSD, which could be some kind of identifier they have supplied so that Console 1 can control the Logic mixer. I'm hoping that's what it is, but probably not...

It was driving me nuts, I tried to change the control surface settings with no success. Then I thought about this being some kind of identifier too. Hope we are right...

Hey Party People, this is one hell of a thread. I recently got my hands on a Console 1 and it's totally changed everything for me. Why I didn't get one sooner only the stars know.... Like many I've been trying to search this thread for some specific information but it's just daunting! So after so much digging I thought I'd just ask....

Everyone's using these units to mix so many different types of music. I know it's subjective but I'd like to know what type of music you all are mixing and which channel strip is your go to and why? I know you can trial them for 30 day, but I believe others can benefit from users experiences when looking to make informed decisions when it comes to which strip to invest in.

So far I'm using the standard 4000E and it's wizardry for house/hip hop and it's amazing! I'm achieving tighter mixes in a way that totally eluded me in the past. I'm eyeing the 9000J to maybe achieve a bigger sound but I love how gritty the 4000 is. Is anyone mixing house with any other strips?

Usually a mix/match, but it probably looks like the 4000E for drums and synths/keys

I actually love them all although i rarely use a complete stock console anymore. I use a lot of uad with it as well. Love the 4K shape section. That's in most of my user preset consoles.The 9k drive section. UAD Zener eq and comps. Low and high end on the 9k eq's. Api compressors. All consoles are great. If it was more stable on my system I'd have zero complaints. Workflow is killer.

Does anyone know of a small thin LCD display I can mount to the Console 1 to be able to easily see and navigate channel names without constantly looking up at my monitor?

Do any of the C1 compatible compressors have a program dependant (auto) attack and release and just have one gain reduction knob? Similar to the LA2A or the SSL channel compressor with its simple slow and fast attack modes

The Summit TLA has a single gain reduction knob and is basically interchangeable with an LA2A. It has 3 settings each for attack and release but their behavior is still program dependent. The SSL 9000 has auto attack but not release, just like the hardware. You just have to turn it all the way slow. It took me a long time to realize that actually. Unlike the hardware, it also gives you continuously variable attack.

I paired it with a x-touch, which has led displays above each fader. I don’t know which DAW you have, but if you have auto track selection, you can just select the right track on the x-touch (by lookin at its led displays) and the console 1 auromatically selects the corresponding track. Works perfectly in Ableton

Im just getting to learn about program dependant compressors. Previously I thought the LA-2A and others just had a fixed attack and release. I don’t know why more modern plugins (iZotope etc) haven’t employed this at least as a setting option. They are just so easy to use and great sounding. Lots of plugins seem to have an auto release, not no auto attack!

Yeah, that would be the best bet (I’ve been looking at the Icon Platform M+), but unfortunately I’m using Logic so even though the Platform M will select the Logic channel ok with its selector buttons, I think I will still have to press the selector buttons on the C1 in order to open the relevant C1 plugin on that particular channel

There are a lot of different flavors of program dependent and auto attack/release behavior with compressors and it is what gives them their character and unique personality. For instance the SSL Bus compressor has an auto-release setting. On the other hand all opto compressors one might use on a bus, for example Avalon 747, have a program dependent release, even though there's no 'auto setting,' and yet they couldn't possibly sound more different. The LA2A and 1176 compressors are feedback design, these will inherently be program dependent. They also sound nothing like the auto attack on an SSL channel dynamics module. Actually nothing sounds like that but an SSL. I have hardware SSL and hardware Elysia Mpressors which also has an auto attack, they sound totally different.

There are 'set and forget' compressors out there if that's what you want, but in all these cases one appreciates the program dependent behavior not because it's set and forget but because they each have a particular sound, and not one that you would use in all cases but rather when you want something specific.

It’s more about getting a setup that I can mix quickly on and not get buried in decision fatigue and figuring out setting. I guess I’m just trying to figure out whether I will be getting that much more of a superior result using a program dependant compressor on many different sound source types, vs just setting the SSL 4k’s attack on around 20ms and a fast-ish release, leaving them there and then just using the threshold?
