I think it is a good idea, those that say it is too late are not seeing the big picture..
Giving artist this option then a lot would go for it. People would buy it to have something special. The only reason streaming took over is because it was convenient, but no reason it couldn't go back the other way.. if most artist would take sell their stuff themselves then the streaming services would not have as much new music and people would have to buy them if they want that artist stuff. Simple.

I know I can make money selling my stuff hand to hand or from a website, streaming services don't ever pay me much of anything.. not that I have ever tried that hard but it had become a different game there of popularity.
