My first thought hearing that fan noise was how funny it’s going to be when the Prophet-X or Quantum sample the noise to make a Moog One preset out of it.

Poor guys. 5 years of labor and sweat and details and maybe a bad firmware deployment is marking their first release day.

If fan noise is a problem then you aren't playing your synth loud enough... crank 'er up and you won't notice the fan noise.

Maybe for $8k they should have gone with liquid cooling like overclockers use?

Does your DAW PC have fans?

The Moog One 16 voice is RRP $12999 in Australia. By way of comparison a Prophet Rev 2 16 Voice is $3400. Realistically, if you have a good relationship with your dealer, then the going rate will be a little less.

Wow, that is steep....of course I don't know what the average Aussie earns.

Personally, I would recommend halting any further speculation or melodrama about this until we hear something specific from Moog about it.

I like new music as well, just there is far less of it that appeals to me. 80s up to mid 90s is what I like best.

Around the time I was born was when electronic music started to go downhill (IMHO) but there is still great stuff made to this day. It is all subjective though. I am much more picky with the metal I like, don't get me started on that.

I’m sorry I can’t imagine dropping cash like this in something that has fans - that’s annoying really unless your playing on stage with airplanes flying over head. Wow what a bummer - deal breaker for me for sure.

That is great to hear! I never use the reverb on my OB6...yuck! It's nice to finally see a synth that put a little money into the FX section.

Personally, at this point I think it's basically useless -- and spoils new owners' delight with the instrument -- to speculate about this any further until Moog makes a statement about it, and what their plans are to address.

They've been extremely responsive and attentive so far; that's unlikely to suddenly change!

Also, with the shipping horror stories. Those will always be around, and are the exception, not the rule, and no-one has to worry about it not being dealt with if they've bought from a reputable dealer.

So, enough with the hand-wringing, and back to the music, and the One!

A CS-80, OB-Xa, Jupiter-8, Prophet 10, Super JX, etc. all don't have fans which tells everyone that an analog synth can be designed to run cool enough without any fans. But at the very least, if you have to use fans, at least put silent ones in. It only takes a very slow movement of air to create a large cooling improvement. Moog will probably come out with a solution soon.

On the the up side, this is the first weekend off I've had in awhile. I need to get some insulation work done on my garage to studio conversion ... but I'd much rather be playing the one. But getting her new home ready is not a bad consolation.

I don't think it's a ruined instrument but often these synths with complex digital control have something that takes away from the player experience. It could be a loud fan, clunky UI, firmware bugs, lack of immediacy or an imposed workflow.

It's an ambitious instrument, but I've spent enough time in the manual now to understand it would get in the way of how I do things. It's not a diss on anyone who will buy or own one nor Moog.

I'm just a simple person who likes mono synth>tape echo and building up layers. The ability to do that in real time was what interested me but it's not quite where I wanted it to be and while it sounds good, it's not 8k good.

Did you get your One setup yet? Man, if I lived in SoCal, I'd gimp my self over and help you. How many chronic pain people does it take to setup a heavy Moog One?

Hey, does anyone have the exact measurements of the One handy? I sure hope that it fits OK on my Spider Pro.

an oft cited reason for the organic lively sound of vintage vco synths is the inherent noise nf the circuitry.

moog might have thought this new synth is to clean...add a noisy fan..haha

That way I can offer a specific value and see if Moog considers that within normal range.

I'm bothered by it and especially since the fan noise is there even if the synth is idle.

Besides this I feel a complete yes with the instrument.

Seriously, Moog should have said in the manual that:
1: During boot fan spins at high rate sounding like a vacum cleaner for 5-6 sec then goes to nominal speed.

I argue thats what they should have done, people would have been satisfied by that, not saying we are going to
do a software fix later which just feeds speculations, they know pretty darn well the fans spins up because they
designed it, so Moog screwed up marketing.......again.

Is it just me or it take a lot of time to boot ? I had the impression that while it is booting it show "ONE" on the screen and the led blink.
Hope it dosent take all that time to really boot cause it seems crazy...

Very nice instrument though.

I'm glad it's Tuesday because I have a medical appointment on Wednesday that the wife will have to drive me to and I was afraid it would show up when no one was home.......then no synth for me!
